Welcome to the biocomputing era.
A new computing era requires a new kind of processor.
Meet the BPU.
A Biological Processing Unit (BPU) is a new kind of computing system that uses biological neurons as its computational core.
Neurons
Biological neurons are incredibly powerful and efficient thinking machines.
They are the building blocks of the human brain, one of the most sophisticated information processing systems known, capable of perception, learning, adaptation, and complex reasoning.
-
~20W
The human brain performs continuous, complex information processing using roughly the power of a light bulb.
-
Massively parallel
Billions of neurons work together at the same time across vast, interconnected networks.
-
Adaptive by nature
Neuroplasticity allows neurons to modify their connections over time, enabling biological networks to learn and adapt.
BPUs harness the extraordinary computational capability and efficiency of living human neurons to train and run intelligent models at a fraction of the cost required by conventional computing.
Instead of simulating intelligence in silicon, we compute with the biology that created it.
Inside a BPU
Inside a BPU, large populations of neurons form biological neural networks (BNNs) that learn through training to perform specific tasks. As they learn, the networks retain what they have learned and use it when similar inputs or tasks appear again.
And because biological neural networks are adaptive by nature, they can continue changing as inputs shift, requirements evolve, and tasks change.
Intelligence for everyone.
The ability to learn a task, generalize what was learned, and apply it to new situations is fundamental to intelligence. Biology has been doing this for billions of years.
With BPUs, we are working toward a future where developing and running intelligent models requires a fraction of the resources it does today, making intelligence more accessible, more personalized, and, most importantly, private.
Silicon gave us personal computing, the internet, and modern AI.
But the next age of intelligence will require a substrate that can think.
Axoniverse is building it!
